The great majority of ultimate players use a Discraft 175 gram "Ultra-star" disc. Other types of disc are customarily scoffed at and rejected from use on the ultimate field, though they serve the other disc functions listed below just as well.
Other uses for discs:
- Marker to indicate a hazard on the field, like an ankle-twisting hole
- Dinner plate (especially useful while backpacking, because you have a disc to throw around as well as a totally lickable dinner plate!)
- Wind blocker
- Shade
- Fan
- Shield
- Wall decoration
